Product seeding (often called barter, or 產品換宣傳 in Hong Kong) means offering creators a product or service instead of cash, in exchange for sharing it on social media after trying it. It works best for new-product trials and campaigns that need lots of genuine reviews. On Connector Club, Premium and above can create barter campaigns: switch Barter on, the cash budget locks to 0, you enter a sponsored product value, and creators know exactly what the reward is before they apply.
Which brands suit product seeding
Not every product works as payment. Whether a creator says yes depends mainly on how appealing the product is and how obvious its value is.
Good fits and poor fits
Works well
- Nano creators and KOCs
- Products with clear value that are easy to try: food and drink, skincare, personal care, experiences, hotel stays
- New-product trials that need many genuine reviews
- Campaigns with flexible posting dates
Works less well
- Macro KOLs and celebrities, who usually expect cash
- Low-value products, or ones that take a long time to show results
- Collaborations that must post on a fixed date in a fixed format
- Content that needs exclusivity or long-term usage rights
If the product alone isn't enough of a draw, consider cash plus product, covered below.
How the Barter toggle works
When you create a campaign, a Barter toggle decides whether the reward is product only, or cash (with optional product).
Barter on and off
- Barter on: product onlythe campaign offers only a sponsored product or service. The cash budget is locked to 0 and you must enter a Sponsored Product Value. Applicants see a note that the campaign offers a product or service of that value with no cash payment, and the apply form has no price field.
- Barter off: cash, with optional productyou set a cash budget per creator and can also add a product value to offer both. Applicants can propose their own price against your suggested budget.
Once you've hired creators, the currency, the cash budget per creator and the sponsored product value are locked. If creators have already applied, switching Barter on or off shows a confirmation prompt. Decide how you'll reward creators before you open the campaign.
How a product trial runs
From campaign to completion
- Create a barter campaignswitch Barter on, enter the sponsored product value, and spell out the deliverables and posting window.
- Recruit publicly or privatelymake it public so creators and KOCs apply, or invite specific people from Influencer Search.
- Choose creatorsreview applicants' official API data and pick the right ones.
- Arrange the productagree in the chat how the product reaches the creator: delivery, pick-up or an in-store visit.
- Review and publishthe creator uploads drafts, you approve one version, and they submit the post from their linked account.
- Confirm completionclick Confirm Completion. A product-only campaign involves no cash, so nothing is charged.

Setting the product value and requirements
The most common problem with product seeding is that brand and creator disagree on whether it's worth it. Before you open the campaign, write down:
What a barter campaign should spell out
- The sponsored product value, at honest retail price
- Deliverables: platform, format and quantity, for example 1 Reel plus 2 Stories
- How many days after receiving the product the draft is due, and when it goes live
- How the product reaches the creator: delivery, store pick-up or an in-person visit
- No demand for a positive review; let creators share honestly
- Disclosure: product-for-content is still a paid partnership, so use the paid partnership label or #ad
- Whether you may repost the content, and for how long
For usage rights and reposting terms, start from our KOL contract template.
Product only, or cash plus product?
Product-only costs the least but has limited pull. According to Connector Club's brand FAQ, campaigns with a cash budget attract up to 80% more applicants. If you need a specific type of creator, a fixed posting date, or the product's value is modest, switch Barter off, set a smaller cash budget and add the product value on top.
One practical setup: recruit KOCs publicly through a product-only barter campaign, and run a separate private cash-plus-product campaign for a few key KOLs. See KOC campaigns for how to mix them.
Pricing
Barter campaigns need Premium (US$89 a month) or above. Premium also includes 10 active campaigns, working with 200 creators at once, automated campaign reports and creator-list exports. The platform takes no cut of creator rewards. See the pricing page.
FAQ
What is product seeding?
Product seeding means giving creators a product or service instead of cash, in exchange for them trying it and sharing it. It's also called barter.
Which plan do I need for barter campaigns?
Premium (US$89 a month) or above. Standard supports cash campaigns only.
Can I add cash after switching Barter on?
With Barter on, the cash budget is locked to 0. To offer both cash and product, switch Barter off, set a cash budget and then add the product value. Once you've hired creators, neither can be changed.
How should I set the product value?
Use the honest retail price of the product or service. Creators see this figure when deciding whether to apply.
Am I charged anything for a product-only campaign?
No. A product-only campaign has no cash element, so nothing is charged when you confirm completion. The product reaches the creator however you agreed.
Do product-seeding posts need an ad disclosure?
Yes. Being paid in product is still a commercial collaboration, so creators should turn on the paid partnership label or add #ad.
