The engagement rate calculator uses the most common formula: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100%. Add the creator's fee and it also gives cost per engagement (CPE). It shows the typical engagement range in Hong Kong for creators of the same size, so you can tell whether a number looks right.
Engagement rate and CPE formulas
| Metric | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement rate (by followers) | (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100% | 1,000 ÷ 25,000 = 4% |
| Engagement rate (by reach) | (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ reach × 100% | Usually higher |
| Cost per engagement (CPE) | Creator fee ÷ engagements | HK$8,000 ÷ 1,000 = HK$8 |
The calculator uses the follower-based method because follower counts are public, so anyone can work it out. Reach is visible only in the creator's own insights or official data. When you compare creators, always use the same method for all of them.
Hong Kong engagement rate benchmarks
Typical Instagram engagement rates for Hong Kong creators, by follower count:
| Followers | Typical engagement rate |
|---|---|
| Under 10K (nano and KOC) | About 5–15% |
| 10K–50K (micro) | About 3–8% |
| 50K–200K (mid-tier) | About 2–4% |
| 200K+ | About 1–2% |
The more followers, the lower the engagement rate tends to be. CPE in Hong Kong typically falls around HK$2–10, but the best benchmark is your own past campaigns.
When you calculate
- Average several posts: one viral or one quiet post distorts the result. Take the average of the last 6–10.
- Compare the same format: Reels, feed posts and Stories engage very differently, so don't mix them.
- Wait 7 days after posting: most engagement arrives within a week, and counting too early understates it.
- Look into anything far above or below the benchmark: very low engagement can mean many inactive or fake followers; unusually high engagement can mean engagement groups.
- Read the comments: whether they come from a real audience and relate to the content matters more than the count.
On Connector Club, creators link their accounts through official Meta, TikTok and YouTube authorisation, so brands see followers, engagement rate and top posts directly, without working them out from screenshots. Threads and Xiaohongshu have no official data connection, so for those two, use the calculator with numbers the creator gives you.

FAQ
How do you calculate a creator's engagement rate?
(Likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100%. For example, 600 average engagements on 20,000 followers is a 3% engagement rate.
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on follower count. In Hong Kong, about 5–15% under 10K followers, 3–8% at 10K–50K, 2–4% at 50K–200K and 1–2% above 200K are typical.
What is CPE?
Cost per engagement: the creator's fee ÷ engagements. HK$8,000 for 1,000 engagements is a CPE of HK$8.
Should engagement rate use followers or reach?
Both are used. Followers works from public numbers; reach needs the creator's own insights and usually gives a higher result. Use the same method when you compare.
How do I measure engagement on Stories?
Story engagement is visible only in the creator's own insights. Stories are usually judged by views, replies and link clicks, so don't compare them with posts using this formula.
